Alright Jim, I want to start a discussin with you about pirates. My question is who is responsible for them. What do we do with them? A few hundred years ago they would be publically hung to deter people from becoming pirates. What is our social and military obligation to the world in regards to these pirates. We are all footing the bill for them as they are raising products costs since they affect trade. Maybe as we capture them we should execute them, maybe not even capture them. The sailors abourt the French ship that they mistakenly attacked were kind enough to let them live. Now what do we do with them. Put them in jail, whose jail though? Should we or should we not execute pirates?

I am with you Michael, you wrote this back in October before those pirates outside of Somalia had abducted that British couple and who must be holding out on retiring them until they receive some kind of ransom.
I don't agree with just randomly killing pirates but in regards to what they do, how they do it and their basic disregard for human life; just thowing them in jail doesn't work.
On a case by case basis, under certain circumstances, in situations where they are killing, stealing and kidnapping for ransom, yes, we ought to kill pirates as we find them, where we find them.
