Back to the sandbox

British soldiers patrolled a road in Basra today.

It looks as if a number of National Guard unit are deploying a little earlier than expected. With the latest surge, the plan was to take National Guard and Reserve units 5 years to redeploy is being reconsidered to meet the operational requirements of the latest demands from the White House.

The irony of the new twist for the fate of a number of American weekend warriors is that up to 1,500 of the 7,000 British troops in southern Iraq will begin withdrawing in coming weeks. How this will effect moral has yet to be seen. The Brits are in the southern part of the country and it is hoped that this withdrawal of troops will act as a template for the United States when it starts to cut back on the number of troops which are stationed in Iraq.
